Reluctance to learn new languages could cause barrier for job seekers

Unwillingness to learn new languages could make finding a job harder.

A French lecturer has stressed her worries for students who only speak one language, after a leading head teacher warned the country is becoming "little Britain".

Yesterday, Dr Anthony Seldon, of Wellington College, alerted the UK to the problems we face because of the reluctance to learn other languages.

Hundreds of countries will visit the nation next year as we gear up for London 2012 Olympics. Various jobs will become available, but with many people only speaking English, their job opportunities may be restricted.

Annie Deakin, of Canterbury Christ Church University, believes students in particular will suffer from lack of "professional opportunities" because of their unwillingness to learn another language.
