Kristy Brooker, 20, of Long Meadow Way, was quite shocked when she received a letter from Spark Energy welcoming her as a new customer. Neither her, or her housemates had been informed of the switch from Southern Electric.
The change was initiated after Margaret Harris, the landlady, had Your Move take over management of the property.
After informing her landlady, Ms. Brooker called Southern Electric, where Michael Royston told her: "The tenant has the choice of energy supplier; unless the switch was agreed to beforehand by both the landlady and the tenant, then what is happening here is illegal."
Ms. Brooker said: "I just feel so angry to be honest, I feel as I've been tricked, I've been switched to a poor energy supplier without actually wanting to, it's really not good."
This does not seem to be the only case of the silent switch by Spark Energy. To see customer reviews of Spark Energy by moneysupermarket.com, click here.
