| While the City Centre is clean, the same can't be said for surrounding areas |
A Canterbury councillor has addressed concerns from residents who believe the outskirts of the city are suffering from neglect.
The City Centre was last week awarded the 'Purple Flag' in recognition of the management of its night time economy.
Canterbury was assessed on a range of criteria including appeal, attractiveness, cleanliness, personal safety and culture.
Yet while the centre is something to be proud of, residents have said the areas outside are suffering.
Alex Gardiner, of Wincheap, Canterbury, believes the outskirts of the city need more attention. He said: "I always used to think the city was really clean, and I suppose it is if its won the award. But now I have moved into the outskirts of Canterbury I have realised it's not that great."

Canterbury councillor, Jeremy Bellamy, has responded to the worries, and says there are projects in place to help raise the standards of other areas.
